Fish Lake
We have spent many fun days at Fish Lake this Summer. We didn't know it was our favorite place until the year we had to move away. Lucky for us it is still close enough to get to if we can't find a new place closer to our new house, we can still go back.
Frogs, Tadpoles, Minnows, Bluegill, Crawdad you name it the kids tried to catch it. Most of the time they were successful. One day my boy caught a fish with his bare hands. Another time they played with a frog for hours while I sat on the beach with a friend and froze in the drizzling rain. Again there were water snakes found in the hands of one lucky boy.
This lake inspired my son to go fishing. On his first cast with his new pole he caught a fish. While walking off the fishing dock we could see a huge tadpole sunning itself on a rock just under the surface.
We found a rope swing but never used it. It looked like a popular place for the college kids to hang out. We love places like this where we can be close to nature and the kids can explore, learn and just be kids.

Birtthda'y Boy Bash
My big boy turned 7. I can't believe how big he is. He is smart and funny and filled with a wild silliness that he often can't control. Even though we are moving he still had a magical day. He wanted to have a party so I kept it low key and just invited friends to the lake that we have been frequenting. I brought punch and cupcakes. It was windy and a little cold but the water was warm. Later we went out for pizza and then had presents and cake and ice cream as a family.
He wanted a remote control police car, and a tadpole for his birthday. He is such a sweet boy. He is wild and opinionated. He likes to be involved and he has an aptitude for drumming. He is helping me out more and more and I am delighting in the fact that he can lift my load by doing work for me when I need it. We love him and I hope he has a wonderful year.

Long Overdue...
Here are some of the fun things we did when we went to visit Grandma and Papa back in July...
Papa took our little guy to see one of his favorite things, FIRE TRUCKS. There were a lot of them, more than 10 going down Main Street on their way for a photo shoot ( or something like that). It was really cool!
Playing in the back yard. There are a few things he is not too sure about, one of which is little swimming pools and sprinklers. I took him to a splash pad early in the summer and he had a bad experience. After much coaxing he got in the little pool and played, but not too much. The funny thing is that he really loves big swimming pools. He talks about them all of the time.
We went to the 4th of July Parade and saw more cool things like old fire trucks, horses, and tractors
.
This is Papa feeling adventurous right before he almost blew the house up.
An amazing first reaction to a birthday cake, he turned two! Ohhh Fire is bad!
When we returned home we tried the birthday thing again with some new best friends.
Still not so sure about the cake thing but it sure tasted good.
